THE ZONTA Club of Blackall Range is a small club with a ‘big’ mission’ to eliminate gender based violence.
As part of Zonta International, the club works across international, national and local platforms to realize a vision of a world in which women’s rights are recognized as core human rights, and every woman is able to achieve her full potential, and no woman lives in fear of violence.
Ending gender based violence is a significant issue that remains a key area of focus. With this in mind, Zonta Club of Blackall Range is a founding member of Speak Up Now, an inter-service club collaboration active in working towards a society free from the scourge of domestic and family violence (DFV).
Achievements include ensuring DFV awareness signs are displayed on the backs of toilet doors (including Men’s toilets), school workshops pushing the message of respect, booklets to assist the older generation to know their rights, forums on Elder Abuse, and several ceremonies held throughout the year in memory of those who have died at the hands of family members.
All members of the community are invited to come along to the candlelight ceremony at Tesch park, Maleny on May 16 at 5pm.
This is to acknowledge and remember those who have experienced domestic violence.
Mark your diaries now for ‘Wuthering heights of Mapleton’ on July 28 to participate in a worldwide fun and inclusive (red dress) event in aid of Speak Up Now.
