Visitor Study to Guide Future Management of Bribie Island National Park

A comprehensive visitor study of Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area has been completed to inform its future management.

With growing visitor numbers, especially post-COVID, the park's increasing popularity requires careful planning to balance conservation efforts with public access. The survey involved input from over 2,000 stakeholders, including the Kabi Kabi People, business operators, and community members.

The findings highlight concerns over environmental conservation, non-compliance issues, and preserving the area's cultural heritage. Recommendations focus on key areas such as conservation, visitor safety, infrastructure, and capacity management, with efforts to maintain the park’s unique natural and cultural values amidst increased demand.

Environment Minister Leanne Linard stressed the importance of planning for the park’s sustainable future, with the Miles Labor Government committed to protecting Queensland’s national parks. She also pointed out the LNP’s lack of policies for such areas, warning of threats to their environmental protections.
