$92.3 Million Targeted Road Safety Program to Improve Queensland Roads
The Miles Government is pushing ahead with a $92.3 million funding package this National Road Safety Week, supporting a variety of road safety projects across Queensland.
The initiative includes vital improvements to the Bruce Highway, Warrego Highway, Deception Bay Road, and other key roads throughout the state.
The funding, sourced from the Camera Detected Offence Program, which reinvests money collected from camera fines, will be used for a range of road safety upgrades. These projects will enhance intersections, improve traffic signals, build new turning lanes, and upgrade pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure. The investment also includes vital works such as audio tactile line marking, wide centre line treatments, and reflective pavement markers.
Of the $92.3 million, $72.6 million will be directed towards the Safer Roads Sooner program, targeting high-risk locations where crashes causing death or serious injury have occurred. The remaining $19.7 million will go toward the Vulnerable Users program, focusing on improving safety for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish emphasized the importance of these upgrades in reducing road accidents and stimulating local economies.
