$100 Million Boost for SEQ Councils to Support Critical Infrastructure and Future Growth

South East Queensland councils will share in $100 million to support critical infrastructure, housing, disaster resilience, and community projects under a new round of the Miles Government’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.

South East Queensland councils will share in $100 million to support critical infrastructure, housing, disaster resilience, and community projects under a new round of the Miles Government’s South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program.

The funding will be allocated to 12 councils across the region, enabling them to fast-track investments in essential infrastructure and community assets. These projects include water supply maintenance, roads and drainage, disaster resilience efforts, community buildings, and preparation for future housing developments.

Minister for Local Government Meaghan Scanlon announced the new round today, unveiling updated program guidelines ahead of meetings with South East Queensland’s mayors in Brisbane. The program aims to support the fast-growing region's development by providing local councils with additional funding to meet their infrastructure needs and prepare for future growth.

Under the updated round, councils can use up to 20 percent of their funding for planning key infrastructure and five percent for workforce development. This flexibility is designed to help councils plan for long-term needs and ensure sustainable growth.

Ms Scanlon highlighted the importance of investing in infrastructure and workforce sustainability to support Queensland’s growth.

"We’re backing SEQ councils with funding to deliver essential infrastructure and services. This is about making sure our communities are prepared for the future," she said.

Assistant Minister for Local Government Ali King said: "The SEQ Community Stimulus Program has already delivered tangible benefits for local economies, tradies, and families. We will continue to work with councils to ensure the best projects are funded to support jobs and liveable communities."

Eligible councils include Brisbane City, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Logan City, Moreton Bay, Noosa Shire, Redland City, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Sunshine Coast, and Toowoomba. Applications for proposed projects will open later this month.
