Toogoolawah duo ready for outdoor and adventurous journey
Toogoolawah State High School duo Hunter Masters-Woods and Jorja Williams will embark on part of the upcoming Bunya to the Bay program, after applying to be in the program.
Grounded in Aboriginal culture and heritage, this award- winning educational experience is an outdoor and adventurous journey which follows the Brisbane River from the source to the sea.
In July and August, Hunter and Jorja will be among 32 students to take part. They will relay in teams to walk, cycle and canoe more than 340km of challenging river terrain.
Undertaking personal, social and adventure learning experiences, the students will build their understanding of the many facets of the Brisbane River.
Time will be spent with Elders on Country connecting with deep and dynamic cultural heritage traditions and values.
Hunter will undertake the second leg of the journey, which involves cycling and canoeing the 80km distance from Harlin State School to the Wivenhoe Information Centre.
Jorja will undertake the fourth leg of the journey, which involves hiking and canoeing the 60km distance from Lower Brisbane River, Kholo Gardens to Brisbane City.
For the closing ceremony, the 32 participants will clock up another 50km as they hike and use public transport to travel from Brisbane to Stradbroke Island.
