Time to welcome home our Olympians

The Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council will co-host a Welcome Home event for Australia’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes following their success at the Paris 2024 Games.

The Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council will co-host a Welcome Home event for Australia’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes following their success at the Paris 2024 Games.

Queenslanders are invited to South Bank on Saturday, 14 September, to celebrate the achievements of homegrown sporting talent. Official proceedings will begin at 10am at the Cultural Forecourt, South Bank, with the arrival of the athletes. The event will feature live entertainment, food, and other activities for attendees.

That evening, Premier Dr Steven Miles will host a formal Welcome Home Dinner to honour the athletes.

Premier Miles said the celebration recognised the talent and dedication of Queensland’s Olympians and Paralympians.

“At the close of the Olympics, we can reflect on the participation, sportsmanship, and success of the Australian team, especially our Queenslanders who represented their nation with pride,” Dr Miles said. “This event also marks another step towards Brisbane 2032, where our athletes will compete on home soil.”

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the event would showcase the city’s pride in its athletes.

“There’s no better place to celebrate than here in the 2032 host city,” Cr Schrinner said. “I encourage everyone to join us in recognising their achievements.”

The celebration forms part of a national series of welcome home events. More information is available at qld.gov.au/welcomehome.
