Sporting clubs and active recreation organisations across Queensland will benefit from a significant boost, with an additional $9.5 million allocated to the Minor Infrastructure Program from the State Budget. This funding is aimed at supporting the delivery of new and upgraded infrastructure projects for community sporting and recreation facilities.
The program is part of a broader effort to encourage physical activity across the state, with an additional $5.5 million allocated to three key programs under the Activate! Queensland 2019-2029 Strategy. This 10-year initiative focuses on increasing participation in sport and recreation to ensure more Queenslanders are active, more often.
The State Budget also includes $1.9 million for the Active Clubs program, expanding it to $4.4 million for 2024-25. The Active Clubs program supports not-for-profit local and regional sport organisations, providing funds for equipment, volunteer support, and new opportunities for physical activity. Since its inception, more than $11.5 million has been approved to support over 5,200 local projects.
In addition, the ActiveKIT initiative will receive $1.3 million to promote innovative solutions for active lifestyles, while $2.3 million will be allocated to the Emerging Athletes Pathways Program to support young athletes with the costs of competing in state, national, and international events.
Tourism and Sport Minister Michael Healy added, “These investments, including the $5.5 million for the Activate! Strategy, will help Queenslanders get moving, more often, and support our local clubs and elite athletes alike.”
