Silver medals and Wide Bay records for Caboolture swimmers
Fifteen members of Caboolture Central Swimming Club were among hundreds of competitors at the Wide Bay Championships, held in Bundaberg from March 3 to 5.
The Caboolture contingent performed extremely well, with two swimmers setting individual records while three teams gained a silver medal.
Additionally, a number of Caboolture swimmers achieved personal bests (PBs).
Caboolture was set to have 18 competitors with 110 individual entries, but three of the swimmers withdrew.
Ava Lamb, Daniel Donaldson, Cameron Carter and Curtis Carter were new to the Wide Bay competition.
Hunter McKenzie set a Wide Bay record in the 13-year boys 50m breaststroke with a time of 34.10 seconds.
Tyla Paterson set a Wide Bay record in the 16-year girls 50m breaststroke with a time of 35.26 seconds.
Caboolture won the silver medal in a 12-year mixed medley relay, with Mabel Shields starting with backstroke, followed by Tyson Bell with breaststroke, Amelia Adam with butterfly and Cameron bringing it home with freestyle.
Caboolture also won silver in a 16-year mixed medley relay, with Tyla doing backstroke, Lachlan Kennedy doing breaststroke, Freeman Gale doing butterfly and Kyla Smith doing freestyle.
The other Caboolture team to claim silver was in the 14 and under mixed relay. Josh Comer swam backstroke, Hunter swam breaststroke, Iliya Gale swam butterfly, and Aaliyah Smith finished with freestyle.
Next for the Caboolture swimmers is the National Speedo Preparation meet and Jessica Schipper Challenge at Brisbane Aquatic Centre this weekend.
