A special ceremony was held last night in Samford to honour 16 Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers for their sustained and significant service, with medals and clasps presented for their extraordinary dedication.
Among the prestigious awards presented were the ACT Emergency Medal, QFES Medal and clasps, Diligent and Ethical Service Medal clasp, National Medal, and National Emergency Medal and clasp.
Notably, Don and Daphne Greenhalgh were honoured for their combined 80 years of service to the Samford Rural Fire Brigade.
Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery Nikki Boyd praised the volunteers, highlighting their commitment to safety and resilience:
“This incredible group of volunteers is a testament to the dedication of the Rural Fire Service in ensuring the safety of others. They are not only long-standing volunteers but also valued community members. Their extraordinary service goes beyond expectations, driven by their commitment to building resilience in their communities.”
Acting Chief Officer of the Rural Fire Service Ben Millington also commended the recipients:
“The number of recipients and their years of service reflect the spirit of this region. Every RFS volunteer plays an essential role in working with the community to mitigate the impacts of bushfire, often at great personal risk. Recognising these volunteers is vital in fostering connected and capable communities.”
