Relief for Queensland Small Businesses with 20% Cut in Vehicle Registration Fees
Queensland small businesses are set to receive further relief, with the Miles Labor Government announcing a 20 per cent cut in vehicle registration fees starting in August 2024.
Queensland small businesses are set to receive further relief, with the Miles Labor Government announcing a 20 per cent cut in vehicle registration fees starting in August 2024. The reduction, which will be reflected on renewal notices from 5 August, applies to both the registration and traffic improvement fees for all light vehicles, regardless of their use.
This move is designed to ease the financial burden on the state’s 480,000 small businesses, many of which rely on vehicles for daily operations. The reduction will also extend to trailers used by mobile businesses across Queensland.
Minister for Small Business Lance McCallum highlighted the importance of reducing operating costs for small businesses. “Motor vehicle expenses can have a big impact on the bottom line for Queensland’s hardworking small and family businesses, especially those who run a fleet,” he said. “This new commitment will be welcomed by those who need to keep the motor running to keep doing business.”
In addition to the vehicle registration fee cuts, the Queensland Government is investing $35 million in the Queensland Business Energy Saving and Transformation program. This program supports businesses in purchasing energy-efficient appliances to further reduce costs.
The Albanese and Miles Labor Governments are also providing a $650 rebate on electricity bills for approximately 205,000 eligible small businesses starting July 2024.
This latest announcement builds on the Queensland Small Business Strategy, which includes a $250 million support package aimed at reducing costs for small businesses and fostering further growth in the sector.
