Thirteen Queenslanders have been recognised for their acts of courage in the latest Australian Bravery Decoration awards, announced by the Governor-General, Her Excellency General the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC.
Each of the recipients has been awarded a Commendation for Brave Conduct for their selfless actions in life-threatening situations.
Among them is Mr Michael Misi, who rescued a young girl from floodwaters near Woree in 2023, and Mr Alexander Stewart, who assisted in saving two people from a burning car near Harvey, Western Australia.
Six Queensland Ambulance Service officers have also been commended for their bravery while treating a victim during the pursuit of an armed offender near Gatton in 2017. Additionally, three recipients were recognised for their efforts in assisting passengers trapped on a burning bus in Moorooka in 2016.
Premier Steven Miles praised the awardees, acknowledging their extraordinary courage.
“It takes an extraordinary person to demonstrate such selflessness and to put the safety of others before their own,” he said. “Every recipient is an inspiration, and I thank them for their brave and kind actions.”
The Australian Bravery Decoration awards are announced twice a year, with recipients invited to an Investiture Ceremony at Government House in their home state or territory. More information, including recipient biographies, is available at www.gg.gov.au.
