Queenslanders Encouraged to Book Free Flu Vaccinations

Queenslanders can now book a free flu vaccination ahead of the 2024 flu season, with the state government funding the program as part of a $40 million initiative to reduce pressure on hospitals.

More than 7,000 flu cases have already been reported this year, with 713 hospitalisations. The program, running until 30 September, is open to all residents over six months old through GPs and pharmacies.

With flu cases typically peaking between May and October, health authorities are urging residents to get vaccinated early. Uptake fell in 2023, particularly among young children, prompting renewed efforts to boost participation.

The flu vaccine can be administered alongside a COVID-19 booster, ensuring broader protection ahead of winter.
