Queensland Sets Bold Agriculture Targets on National Agriculture Day

Queensland is positioning itself as a national leader in food and fibre production, with the Crisafulli Government committing to a $30 billion farm gate output by 2030.

Marking National Agriculture Day, Minister for Primary Industries Tony Perrett outlined key investments aimed at boosting productivity, strengthening biosecurity, and driving innovation across the sector.

A $30 million ‘Sowing the Seeds of Farming Innovation Fund’ will support new technologies and next-generation farmers, while a $12.5 million investment in Mossman’s sugar industry will help secure the 2025 harvest.

Biosecurity measures will receive a $50 million boost, including the deployment of 100 additional staff to protect against pests and diseases. The government also plans to work with stakeholders to develop a Queensland Timber Action Plan to support the housing industry’s long-term timber supply.

Other initiatives include a $4.5 million investment in Beef Week 2027 to showcase the state’s cattle industry and a commitment to supporting the fishing sector through scientifically backed regulatory changes and fair compensation.

Minister Perrett said the government’s strategy would provide long-term certainty for Queensland’s farmers, fishers, and timber producers.

“Our vision is a stronger, more resilient, and innovative agricultural sector that benefits every Queenslander,” he said.

The plan also includes collaboration with industry and education providers to equip workers with skills for emerging AgTech roles, ensuring Queensland remains at the forefront of agricultural innovation.
