The Queensland Government has announced the formation of a Tourism Cabinet Committee, tasked with driving the state’s tourism productivity and long-term industry growth.
Premier David Crisafulli made the announcement at the DestinationQ Conference during Tourism Week, outlining the committee’s role in shaping a 20-year tourism strategy. The committee will oversee major tourism proposals, review business cases, and address regulatory barriers that have hindered industry expansion.
The committee is chaired by Minister for Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell and includes several senior ministers, among them Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last, and Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg.
Crisafulli said tourism is a key economic driver for Queensland and a sector that requires strategic investment.
“Tourism is one of the state’s largest export industries, supporting thousands of Queensland jobs. We need to focus on new projects, global promotion, and future-proofing the sector,” he said.
Ecotourism development is among the government’s priorities, with projects such as the Skyway in the Whitsundays and the Wangetti Trail in Far North Queensland cited as examples of future investment.
The committee will meet for the first time next month to begin implementing its agenda.
