The monumental underground station at the heart of Queensland’s most significant transport interchange is quickly taking shape, with impressive advancements being made at the Cross River Rail’s Roma Street station site.

Six of the eight escalators for the station’s underground platform are now in place, alongside four of the 20 escalators that will take passengers to the surface level. Architectural finishes are becoming visible, including wall panels and final touches to the baffle ceilings, designed to absorb sound within the expansive underground space.

By 2036, more than 46,000 people are expected to use the Roma Street station each weekday, underlining the importance of this transformative project.

As construction progresses, the scale of the underground stations is becoming clearer, with passengers set to descend almost 30 metres below ground to board their trains. Over the coming months, work will continue with the installation of the final escalators, the setting of artwork, and the construction of a station canopy that will soar 23 metres above street level.

When finished, the new high-capacity underground station, alongside the upgraded entrance to the existing local, regional, and interstate rail connections, bus platforms, and coach terminal, will transform Roma Street into Queensland’s foremost public transport hub and a landmark gateway to Brisbane.
