Once a Snake, now a Rooster
A DREAM is about to be realised for former Caboolture Snakes junior Otesa Pule, who is poised to appear in this year’s National Rugby League Women’s (NRLW) competition.
After playing for the Snakes from 2016 to 2019, Pule progressed to senior football and was in the Roosters’ Indigenous Academy Tarsha Gale team, before earning her NRLW contract.
Pule began the Tarsha Gale Cup season with a bang as she made a number of good runs, and also scored a try in each half in a 42-0 drubbing of Canterbury.
Pule is in a Roosters squad of 18, with the club aiming to go one better after finishing runners-up last year and in the inaugural 2018 NRLW season.
This year’s Roosters’ squad includes Corban Baxter (née McGregor), Isabelle Kelly, Brydie Parker, Jessica Sergis, Hannah Southwell, Zahara Temara and Sarah Togatuki, each of whom possess NRLW grand final experience.
Baxter, Kelly, Sergis, Southwell and Togatuki have also played State of Origin for New South Wales, while Temara has played Origin for Queensland.
With the Brisbane Broncos being the only team to be crowned NRLW premiers so far, this year’s competition is scheduled to begin on the weekend of August 21-22.
Foundation clubs the Broncos, Roosters and St George Illawarra Dragons will be joined by new teams Gold Coast, Parramatta and Newcastle while foundation club the New Zealand Warriors won’t take part this year.
