Night run to help homeless
Now entering its 32nd year, Geoff ’s Runs annual Dusk Til Dawn charity event will kick off on Saturday, February 8, from 6pm to 6am at the Toogoolawah Showgrounds, to raise money for homeless.
Community Friends, who the funds will go to, is a charity based in West End, Brisbane, who help homeless and those in need with supplying free food, clothing, shoes, blankets and general support.
Run organiser and Toogoolawah local, Geoff Williams, said this charity event is close to his heart, and that it was a great way to bring the community together.
“Mark McDonnell founded the charity and we keep in touch and updates me with how their going,” he said.
“At Christmas time they supply hot and cold meals to the needy, as well as grocery packs to help people get by.
Children up to 14-years-old and open age.
Geoff stressed how this event is inclusive, welcoming runners both experienced and novice to help raise money for a good cause while also having fun.
“It’s all about being there and showing support for the charity,” he said.
“We have teams who come along, get dressed up, they bring their own music, it’s a real festival thing.
“We have about 150 people attend every year, and it’s got a real atmosphere,” he said.
“Families come along and it’s principal purpose is charity fundraising to help out Community Friends but also the running aspect is to introduce people into the sport so it’s two fold.”
Geoff usually donates around $1500 every year from the monies raised, plus any money he has left over at the end of the year.
The charity has been running now for 11 years.
“Every Wednesday afternoon is when they supply meals and food to the homeless and those in need, where hundreds usually show up.”
The Dusk Til Dawn event has a number of distances that runners can sign up for, with the proceeds of the register fee going to Community Friends.
There is a 10km event which is for juniors aged nine to 15-years-old, half and full marathons, and a 5km event divided for.
“And it’s not just teams cheering on their own team members, but their cheering other people on too.”

Prices range from $10 to run 5km, to $270 for the 12 hour team event.
