New Cycling Centre of Excellence to Boost Brisbane 2032 Preparations

A national cycling Centre of Excellence will be established in Brisbane as Queensland gears up to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A national cycling Centre of Excellence will be established in Brisbane as Queensland gears up to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

AusCycling’s Action and Acceleration Centre of Excellence will see the national Track Sprint and BMX Racing programs relocate to the Sleeman Sports Complex, supported by the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS).

The Track Sprint program will operate from the Anna Meares Velodrome, while BMX Racing will be based at the Brisbane SX BMX Centre. Olympic gold medallist Saya Sakakibara and other elite athletes will relocate to Queensland from January 2025.

Minister for Sport Tim Mander said the Centre positioned Queensland strongly on the road to Brisbane 2032.

“With upcoming world championships and the Olympic Games, Queensland is the perfect place for AusCycling to develop its national program,” he said.

Athletes and staff will complete the move by March 2025.
