New Board Appointed for Metro North Hospital and Health Service
A new 10-person board has been appointed to oversee the Metro North Hospital and Health Service (HHS), bringing expertise from health, politics, and consultancy sectors.
A new 10-person board has been appointed to oversee the Metro North Hospital and Health Service (HHS), bringing expertise from health, politics, and consultancy sectors.
Health Minister Shannon Fentiman announced the board, led by Bernard Curran, a member since 2018 and former Chair of the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.
Five new members—Linda Lavarch, Dr Peter Aitken, Dr Shea Spierings, Dr Poya Sobhanian, Aimee McVeigh, and Jane Prentice—bring experience in government, emergency medicine, disaster management, community health, and law.
Dr Aitken, a key figure in Queensland’s pandemic response, specialises in disaster preparedness. Dr Spierings, a Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, focuses on Indigenous health. Dr Sobhanian has board experience in Central Queensland’s health sector and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Ms Lavarch and Ms Prentice have extensive political experience, while Ms McVeigh, CEO of the Queensland Council of Social Services, brings legal expertise.
Returning members include Adrian Carson, Nermina Komaric, and Dr Melissa Cairns.
The board will set Metro North’s strategic direction and oversee healthcare delivery. Minister Fentiman praised outgoing Chair Jim McGowan AM for his leadership and expressed confidence in the new team’s ability to drive continued success.
