Narangba Eagles take part in ‘Unity Pitch’

THE Narangba Eagles soccer club had a night to remember as the FQPL3 (Football Queensland Premier League) women’s team hosted a two-hour training session for many Eagles juniors at Brisbane’s King George Square on Wednesday last week.

It was an occasion of unity for the Eagles as part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup (WWC) Unity Pitch, an interactive facility designed to reflect the unique local cultures of Australia and New Zealand.

The Unity Pitch, which glowed in colour under the City Hall clock tower, was in town for a week as part of a nationwide tour to acknowledge the tournament which will take place in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.

Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium will be one of the venues.

Football Queensland – the state’s governing body for the sport – offered the Unity Pitch to clubs in the Metro region which wished to train on it, and the Eagles were fortunate to be granted two of the six slots that were available.

Narangba Eagles president Darren Magin said, “Once the club was offered some slots, our Women’s Football Coordinator, Karen Steen, devised a plan that involved the FQPL3 women attending and hosting two hour-long training sessions for some of the club’s younger boys and girls.

“The night was brilliant with smiles all around.

“I’m not sure who enjoyed it more – the women players or the children!

“Karen does a lot of work behind the scenes at the club, and we’re all very grateful for this wonderful opportunity that she presented.

“The Unity Pitch is the perfect opportunity to create unity on a number of levels in this wonderful sport but it also aligns perfectly with the club’s 2023 #EaglesAsOne stance.”
