Movie deal takes state into the Monstervers

Queensland has cemented its status as the home of the ‘Monsterverse’ as production begins on the second season of Legendary Entertainment’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Queensland has cemented its status as the home of the ‘Monsterverse’ as production begins on the second season of Legendary Entertainment’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

The production strengthens Screen Queensland’s partnership with Legendary Entertainment, following recent feature films Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Kong: Skull Island.

Set after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows two siblings uncovering their family’s ties to the secretive organisation known as Monarch. Spanning three generations, the series explores how earth-shattering events ripple through time.

The Queensland Government’s Production Attraction Strategy has supported 65 film and television projects since 2015, generating over 22,000 jobs and contributing more than $2 billion to the state economy. In 2023–24 alone, 11 secured productions created 3,400 local jobs and injected approximately $345 million.

Season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will employ around 1,000 local cast and crew, providing opportunities across industries from accommodation to wardrobe supplies.

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said securing another ‘Monsterverse’ production reinforces the state’s reputation for world-class talent, locations, and facilities. Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch highlighted the economic and employment benefits, calling the series the largest television production ever filmed in Queensland.
