In celebration of Labour Day, the Miles Government has unveiled new workplace entitlements for Queensland public sector employees, including a nation-leading 10 days of reproductive health leave. This leave will support workers dealing with fertility and IVF treatment, chronic reproductive health conditions like endometriosis, as well as preventative screenings and surgeries such as hysterectomies and vasectomies. The entitlement will be in place no later than September this year.
Additionally, from July 2024, the government will ensure superannuation payments are made during unpaid parental leave for public sector workers, addressing the gender superannuation gap. Currently, superannuation is only paid during periods of paid parental leave. The 2023 Queensland Gender Equality Report Card showed a 19.8% average superannuation gap between men and women.
