The State Government has launched Queensland's largest ever rapid response unit – the ‘State Flying Squad’ – to target crime hotspots across the state.

The new squad of 58 specialist officers will be strategically deployed to high-risk areas, focusing on Queensland’s worst juvenile and adult offenders.

The State Government has committed $32.4 million in funding over five years, which will absorb officers from operations like Taskforce Guardian and Operation Whiskey Legion.

The squad will bolster the police frontline, ensuring teenage criminals are held accountable through the Making Queensland Safer Laws.

Premier David Crisafulli said the State Flying Squad was a key part of the Government’s commitment to restoring safety to communities.

“This squad will strike at the heart of crime and help restore community safety across the state,” Premier Crisafulli said.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Dan Purdie said the squad would support frontline police and focus on tackling youth crime and high-risk offenders.

Deputy Commissioner Cheryl Scanlon said the new funding would increase the squad by 41 full-time staff, strengthening Queensland’s response to crime hotspots.
