Kilcoy Global Foods worker accommodation approved
SOMERSET Regional Council has approved workers accommodation at Winya to support employees of the region’s largest employer, Kilcoy Global Foods.
The facility will cater for 150 employees and it is estimated that the facility could potentially provide upwards of $300 million value to the local (and broader) Queensland economy through wages, additional livestock purchases and more.
Somerset Councillor Cheryl Gaedtke (pictured) said the approval of this accommodation was great news for the community.
“The purpose of the facility is to accommodate workers of the abattoir due to the shortage of available housing in the Kilcoy area,” Cr Gaedtke said.
Three units have been approved and will include a communal outdoor gym and activities facility, kitchen, laundry and a caretakers accommodation for site management.
The meat processing facility employs about 1,700 staff and has been the primary employer in Somerset for several years.
