Happy 100th, Evelyn
On October 1, Rockpool Residential Aged Care Morayfield resident, Evelyn Williams, celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.
Evelyn was born in Brisbane in 1924, and lived in Caloundra and Maleny as a young woman.
She worked as a telephonist at a post off ice from 16 to 24-years-old, and met her late husband in 1945.
They met in Maleny when she worked at the post office and he worked in his father’s shop across the road.
The couple got married in 1948. Evelyn gave birth to three beautiful children, Graham, 74, Bruce, 70 and her youngest child, Roslyn, 67.
Evelyn raised their family in Caboolture, and she worked with her husband at their general store, Williams and Sons, on King Street, until it closed in 1985.
Her husband passed in 2001, but she then lived independently for around 20 years. She then moved into Rockpool Morayfi eld just two years ago.
Evelyn didn’t have any tips to live a long life, but said she has been in good health most of her life.
“I’ve had fairly good health all my life,” she said.
“I did have polio when I was 50 and that was the worst time.
“Despite this, I’ve got reasonably good health now, so I’ve been lucky.”
The birthday girl added that her proudest moment throughout her 100 years of life, was having her three children.
She now, not only has grandchildren, but great grandchildren too, who all celebrated the rare milestone with her earlier this month.
Evelyn’s daughter, Roslyn, said they were both heavily involved in the community, and she played lawn bowls up until a few years ago.
“She was very involved in bowls at the Caboolture Bowls Club, she started playing before she was 50 until she was 95,” she said.
“Mum and dad were very much part of the Caboolture community.
“Dad was in a lot of the community groups, like the local rotary.”
Happy belated birthday to you, Evelyn!
