The Investing in Queensland Women grant program's Super Round has allocated $635,000 to 37 organisations delivering projects aimed at promoting safety and wellbeing for women and girls, empowering their voices and leadership, and creating lasting positive change in communities. Each of the successful organisations will receive grants of up to $25,000 to implement initiatives that support women from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, women impacted by domestic violence, breast cancer survivors, women with disabilities, and those from the LGBTIQ+ community.
Initiatives funded by the grants include projects such as:
Impact Community Services Bundaberg: A mobile pop-up shop to support women’s health and wellbeing in Bundaberg.
Basic Rights Queensland: Resource packs offering vital legal information to culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Coral Sea Foundation Ltd: A training and networking program for First Nations women focused on understanding their sea country.
Epilepsy Action Australia: Educational webinars for pregnant women with epilepsy.
By merging the first two rounds for 2024 into one super round, community groups now have 12 months to implement their initiatives, a timeline extension made possible by additional funding, bringing the total to $635,000. Since its launch in 2021, the grant program has supported 206 initiatives with over $1.8 million in funding, underscoring the Miles Government’s commitment to advancing gender equality across Queensland.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services, and Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman expressed her excitement about the recipients, acknowledging the invaluable role these organisations play in promoting safety and wellbeing for women in the community. She also highlighted the overwhelming number of applications, underscoring the community's commitment to improving women's lives throughout Queensland.
