Government launches housing taskforce to tackle supply and affordability
The Queensland Ministerial Housing Taskforce has convened its first meeting, just days after Ministers were sworn into their new roles.
The Queensland Ministerial Housing Taskforce has convened its first meeting, just days after Ministers were sworn into their new roles.
Chaired by Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, the Taskforce will drive policy to increase housing supply, boost home ownership, and strengthen the community housing sector.
Key priorities include delivering one million homes by 2044, lifting Queensland’s home ownership rate to the highest in the nation, and enabling the community housing sector to provide 10,000 additional homes over the next 20 years. The government will also ensure all Housing Investment Fund dollars go towards new builds rather than purchasing existing properties.
The Treasurer and Minister for Home Ownership, David Janetzki, has directed Treasury to abolish stamp duty for first-home buyers on new builds.
Deputy Premier Bleijie said the Taskforce would streamline processes and remove barriers to new housing.
“The Crisafulli Government is committed to securing Queensland’s housing future,” he said.
