Future South Bank Master Plan Unveiled with Focus on People, Greenery and Connectivity
The new Future South Bank Master Plan outlines exciting proposals to transform this beloved space, with a focus on better connections, increased active transport options, and more greenery.
Aiming to make South Bank even better, the plan identifies three key areas for change: the Southern Gateway, Northern Gateway, and Grey Street. Each area is designed to prioritise people and active transport.
A revitalised Cultural Forecourt will serve as a new gathering place, adapting to the needs of Brisbane’s rapidly growing population. The plan is a central piece in Brisbane's journey towards becoming a more connected, fully accessible city for everyone.
Community input has played a major role in shaping the plan, with more than 25,000 pieces of feedback gathered. The plan sets out a vision for the future of South Bank, while scope, timing, and investment will continue to be evaluated.
Today also saw the launch of the government’s Connected Precincts Program, which aims to enhance the performance and connectivity of key precincts across Brisbane. The program targets 11 inner-city precincts, including the Gabba, South Bank, and Roma Street, aiming to improve walkability and active travel links.
These initiatives will help create a cooler, greener, and more accessible Brisbane, providing seamless access between key Olympic venues in time for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Quotes attributable to Minister Grace Grace and Chair Susan Forrester highlight the importance of South Bank as a cultural and lifestyle hub for residents and visitors alike.
