Fundraising for fire service
Raising money for the Rural Fire Service (RFS) is a key objective as the Viking Breed Social Motorcycle Club (VBSMC) prepares to stage the inaugural Tattoo and Motorbike Show at the D’Aguilar Hotel on Saturday 1st May.
Organisers hoped to stage the event last year, but COVID-19 caused the first-time event to be delayed for 12 months. The event was organised to raise funds for the RFS in the wake of the fire disasters that hit Australia in late 2019 and early 2020, before COVID-19 soon became the next disaster. A VBSMC member named Peter remarked that those contributing for the RFS were volunteers, and that they deserved support. “We want to help out where we can,” he said. While the day is sure to be a drawcard for people interested in motorbikes or tattoos, Peter emphasised that the occasion was about bringing the community together. “Basically it’s about giving back to the community,” he said. Even if one was not interested in motorbikes or tattoos, Peter encouraged anyone to come along and have fun, and support a good cause. Aware that there has been some societal stigma associated with motorbike groups and tattoos, Peter stressed that the VBSMC was eager to bring out positive aspects. “We’re family people, we’re community people, and community orientated,” he said. Trophies will be on offer as there are nine categories in the tattoo show, and nine bike categories. The tattoo categories will be for best colour, best black and grey, Oriental, realistic, back, chest panel, sleeve, traditional, and best of show. The bike categories will be for best in show, best paint, American, British, Jap, bagger, custom, trike, and old school. Raffle prizes and meat trays will also be on offer, with an air conditioner among the prizes. A gold coin donation will be the cost of attending the event, while the cost for anyone entering the show will be $10. All proceeds go to the RFS. The Show is expected to last from noon to 5pm, before musician Chev Wilson provides entertainment in the evening.
