Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre Flood Resilience Officer Trevor Warrener said the event’s purpose is to make individuals aware that being resilient can assist in future severe weather events.

“Knowing who to call and knowing when to call, what to bring with you, and of course an emergency evacuation kit always at the ready,” Trevor said.

“This event is particularly important as we head into the new year, due to unpredictable weather events becoming more regular, which appear to be a direct result of climate change, these are only set to increase in regularity in the near future.

“The severe weather event that occurred early last year left many Australian families and communities high and dry.

“The purpose of the event is to highlight the fact, that being prepared and becoming more resilient can prevent the loss and damage that may have occurred in previous disasters from occurring again.”

Attendees can expect to get free advice, information and referrals to organisations that aid during all crisis events, as wells as a free sausage sizzle and soft drinks.

There will also be a range of entertainment for children attending, including a rock-climbing wall, a puppet show, karaoke and a live snake show with Julie Baker.

Trevor said Julie has appeared on the discovery channel, as well as many other shows.

“Her show is a must see for all,” he said.

Lucky door prizes, including fire and water proof document cases, first aid kits and wooden toys, will also be up for grabs.

Whilst the centre has been running community events for 12 years, this will be the first Resilience event, funded by the State Government and the Primary Health Network.

“These events provide many of our community members with a sense of belonging, knowing that there is support and a safe place to go that is familiar with friendly accommodating staff.”

The Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre Community Resilience Event will be held at 9 George Street Caboolture and will run from 10am to 1pm.

Close to 300 community members and stall holders are expected to attend.
