Final sitting weeks of Parliament
Premier David Crisafulli has confirmed that the Queensland Government’s tough new crime laws will be introduced and passed in Parliament before Christmas.
Premier David Crisafulli has confirmed that the Queensland Government’s tough new crime laws will be introduced and passed in Parliament before Christmas. Two sitting weeks have been scheduled for November and December, with the first sitting from 26-28 November and the second from 10-12 December.
The Making Queensland Safer Laws will be the first piece of legislation introduced to the new Parliament. The bill will be introduced in the November sitting and debated in December after being reviewed by a Parliamentary Committee.
Premier Crisafulli emphasised that restoring safety is the government’s top priority. "I promised we would get straight to work, and that’s what we are going to do — deliver these tougher laws before the end of the year," he said. "Queenslanders have made it clear they want these changes, and we are acting on it."
The proposed laws include the introduction of the "Adult Crime, Adult Time" policy, the removal of detention as a last resort for young offenders, and a focus on putting victims’ rights first. Crisafulli also noted that the new laws will complement the government’s plans for early intervention and crime prevention.
The Making Queensland Safer Laws are set to be legislated before the end of 2024, fulfilling a key promise of the LNP Government.
