Eco champion named Rotarian of the Year

Scarborough resident Colin Scobie has been named Rotarian of the Year at the Rotary Club of Redcliffe Sunrise’s annual changeover lunch on June 21.

A dedicated Rotarian with 20 years of service, Mr Scobie has held various off ices throughout his tenure and is a passionate advocate for environmental sustainability.

In January 2021, he founded the Moreton Bay Chapter of the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG) to raise community awareness and undertake local environmental projects.

Since May 2024, Mr Scobie has been the Chair of ESRAG Oceania, participating in the Environmental Leadership Australia (ELA) Queensland Retreat to collaborate with other community leaders.

He has also spearheaded projects such as Clean Up Australia, a local oyster shell recycling program in Redcliff e, and Turtles Awareness to protect hatchlings at Scarborough.

Mr Scobie is also involved in Communities Action for Fresh Water, focusing on Redcliffe’s Humpybong Creek.

He is currently in discussions with the Moreton Bay Council about re-nativising the creek and removing exotic species and pests.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Mr Scobie was presented with the award by Division 5 Councillor Sandra Ruck.

The event was held at the Moreton Bay Boat Club, Scarborough and was attended by around 30 Rotarians and guests, being hosted by last year’s Rotarian of the Year, Peter Morley.
