Crouch prepares for states comp
Moreton Bay junior basketball player, Kiahn Crouch, is gearing up for his first state representative competition, and is raising money to cover the trip’s costs.

14-year-old Kiahn has only been playing basketball for two years, and currently plays in the South Queensland Junior Basketball Competition (SQJBC) for the U16 Moreton Bay team, the Moreton Bay Suns.
Kiahn tried out a range of sports such as rugby league and football, but once he found his passion for basketball, the rest was history. and sparked his interest.
“He’s very tall for his age, it’s a huge advantage, and he has been excelling at it ever since.”
It’s clear Kiahn was born to be a basketball player, being 6ft 4 at a young age, and has held the top points scorer title in the SQJBC since round 1.
His ultimate goal is to one day play for Brisbane in the NBL and eventually the NBA.
“He loves basketball and is very competitive when it comes to the sport,” he said.
“I think he also is enjoying all the mates he’s making along the way.
“He is a competitor, he likes to win, and he is.”
Travis said Kiahn was ecstatic when he found out he was heading to states for the first time.
“We tried him in a few different sports but nothing has ever stuck,” Kiahn’s dad, Travis said.
“Then when he tried basketball, it just clicked.”
“He was really excited but also anxious, and he has been trying different styles and tricks on the court to improve his game,” he said.
Travis said his son’s training five times a week and plays three games a week.”
Kiahn comes from a successful athletic family, from his father who played professional gridiron 30 years ago, to his sister, Kirra Leigh who is playing football in the Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) Division 1 this year for the Peninsula Power.
Kiahn is raising money for his team to compete at the state championships on April 4-6 in Logan, which will cost $15,000 per side.
So far, the team have held a number of meat raffles at the Big Fish Tavern, but now are running a larger raffle with great prizes.
Prizes include a Weber BBQ, a signed basketball pack, and many other prizes valued up to $1000.
