Caboolture soccer women ready to step up a level
The Caboolture senior women’s soccer teams have gained a promotion for the upcoming season, following a premiership for the U23s and a finals campaign for the open team last year.
Caboolture’s open and U23 women’s teams have been promoted from the (Football Queensland Premier League) FQPL3 division to the FQPL2 division.
The open team finished one game shy of a grand final berth last year, but was not guaranteed a promotion after placing third rather than first or second on the ladder.
The Taringa Rovers dropped down to FQPL3 for this year, however, enabling Caboolture to step up a division.
With Caboolture’s open women’s team being promoted, the U23s automatically followed suit.
Cory Robins has been appointed as the new coach of the Caboolture open women’s team, while Tina Mawer and Andrew Aranovitch remain co-coaches of the U23s.
“Our goal was always to gain promotion so we are excited to once again push for another promotion,” Robins said.
“(There will be) tougher competition which is what we want to continue to develop our players.”
Caboolture’s open women’s team has been bolstered with some new signings including National Premier Leagues Women’s (NPLW) campaigners Georganna Williamson, Rhea Hall, Abigail Stanton, and sisters Cassie and Tegan Buhmann.
The women’s teams had a few training sessions in the lead-up to Christmas, and later returned to training on January 5.
Both of Caboolture’s women’s teams are scheduled to contest fellow FQPL2 counterparts North Brisbane in trial matches at the Lutwyche-based Prentice Park on January 28.
Caboolture’s women’s teams begin their season proper on March 5, with home matches against Grange Thistle at Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex.
Caboolture’s open men’s and U23 teams meanwhile will remain in FQPL1, despite finishing well out of finals contention last year.
Caboolture’s men’s teams hosted the Buderim Wanderers for pre-season hit-outs on January 8, with Caboolture comprehensively winning 9-0 in the U23s before Buderim won the open’s fixture 3-2.
