This comes off the back of a successful 2024 season for the senior teams, with the U19 Men annihilating the Caloundra Sharks 74-12 in their grand final win, and the Open Women who were premiership runner-ups.

Meanwhile, the Reserve and A Grade Men narrowly missed out on finals campaigns. Snakes club president, Natasha Field, said there were great benefits to playing trial matches against clubs out of their usual competition pool.

“At the start of the season, clubs reach out to each other from different regions to organise trial matches,” she said.

“All clubs usually aim to play a team outside their competition as it’s a bonding experience for the teams.

“Clubs usually avoid playing the teams they are going to play for competition during the season.” Natasha added that the senior teams have been in preseason training since December last year, and are keen to have a successful 2025 season.

“They have been put through cardio intensive sessions in preparation for the start of the season,” she said.

“We have a few new signings this year, too many to name, but we have strong squads building with a few young guns stepping up this year after the success of the U19s in 2024.

“It is a goal for the club to have all teams vying for finals positions in 2025.”

With the new year, comes two new committee members joining the club.

“Tim Wood has completed his four-year term and we are very thankful for all he had done for the club in that role,” she said.

“Mark Carstens has also completed his term on the executive committee who always gives tirelessly to the club for many decades.

“Shari Richter has stepped into Football Operations Manager and Sweetie has taken a role within the executive committee.”
