Caboolture rally driver is all revved up

Caboolture resident and up-and-coming rally car co-driver, Holly Arbon, travelled south recently to take part in the Working Dog Rally at Bonalbo in Northern NSW.

Daughter of long time rally driver and co-driver Tony Arbon, Holly teamed up with Maryborough resident Krystle Power in a big V8 Ford Falcon to contest the event with the all-female crew hoping for a good result in their first rally together.

Unfortunately, they had mechanical issues with the car over-heating and then a fuel pick-up problem and although they managed to nurse the car home they did not complete enough stages to be classified as finishers.

Arbon senior also competed alongside Ian Griffin from the Gold Coast in a 2 litre turbocharged Toyota Celica and also had mechanical issues with part of the rear suspension coming loose.

They did get it repaired and finished a creditable third in class and mid-field overall from a field of 60 starters.

Arbon commented that the organisation of the event was outstanding and the roads were fast and flowing with speeds up to 160kph on gravel surfaces.

The event was organised by the Gold Coast Tweed Motorsporting Club with assistance from the Brisbane Sporting Car Club with the local council organising a street party in the main street of Bonalbo during the ceremonial start on the Saturday evening before racing began early Sunday morning.

Main sponsors were Accent Benchtops, Kickass Products and Buccini Transport.
