Caboolture cricketers win at home
CABOOLTURE’S Div 1 cricketers won on home soil last Saturday while it was a different story for the Div 2 and 3 teams as they played away from home.
The Div 1 team crushed Caloundra by 157 runs while the Div 6 team won on forfeit against Palmwoods Black, after the Div 6 game was also scheduled for Caboolture Sports Cricket Club.
A dashing century from the experienced Glen Batticciotto set up Caboolture’s big total of 6/306, before Caloundra batted out its full 50 overs and lost seven wickets while scoring at barely three runs per over.
After the hosts won the toss and chose to bat, Preston White and Thomas Rowley put on an opening stand of 74 before White fell for 32, which included two fours and two sixes.
Rowley went on to score 73, including five fours and three sixes, and his dismissal did not halt the run flow as Batticciotto was in full flight.
Cameron Trask and Jackson Mills played supporting roles, before Lachlan Ryan slammed four sixes in his 38 from 20 balls.
Ryan and Batticciotto were dismissed just before the 300 was raised, with Batticciotto’s 123 coming from 106 balls and including nine fours and four sixes.
John Flew faced five balls and hit one of them over the boundary, before he took wickets with successive balls as Mitchell Lee held two catches to leave Caloundra 2/26.
The visitors showed no interest in pursuing the daunting target, with opener Isaac Cottrell facing 107 balls and middle order batter Jett Crawford facing 79 balls as they scored 34 each.
Flew, Trask and Josh Burton nabbed two wickets each while Mills took one.
Yandina opener too good in Div 2
Caboolture’s total of 9/156 in 40 overs was insufficient in the Div 2 match at Wonga Park, as Yandina won by seven wickets with nearly 12 overs to spare.
Caboolture was in early strife at 2/18 before Ben Stuart and Ben Lapham scored 40 each, but the visitors stuttered after reaching 2/105.
Yandina’s Aiden Cushan returned superb figures of 3/16 from eight overs, while Jason Woods also bowled tidily as he took one wicket and conceded just 23 runs in his eight overs.
Woods made an even bigger impression as an opening bat, as he hit 12 fours and a six on his way to 88 not out from 95 balls.
Wickets fell at 26, 78 and 137 as Yandina rarely looked troubled, and number five batter Michael Trace faced just two balls without scoring as Woods dominated the unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 22.
Maroochydore opener blazes away in Div 3
Caboolture tallied 154 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 40 overs in the Div 3 contest at Elizabeth Daniels Park, before Maroochydore bettered it in 21.3 overs for the loss of just one wicket.
After being 1/7, Caboolture repeatedly lost a wicket when a partnership started to build soundly.
Caboolture then stumbled from 3/82 to 6/89, before an unbeaten 31 from Nick Sly gave the total a boost while Raymond Maller made a vital 19 not out.
Needing to score at less than four runs per over, Maroochydore had a flying start as openers Mark Kratzmann and Nathan Grazier scored at better than a run per ball.
Grazier hit 36 of his 40 runs in boundaries, and Kratzmann raced to an undefeated 85 which included 52 runs in boundaries.
Following Grazier’s dismissal, Peter McCauley struck one boundary in his 19 not out.
