Brisbane to host NRL Magic Round until 2027
Brisbane has secured a three-year extension as the host city for the NRL’s Magic Round, cementing its place as the spiritual home of the event until 2027.
Brisbane has secured a three-year extension as the host city for the NRL’s Magic Round, cementing its place as the spiritual home of the event until 2027. The announcement follows a competitive bidding process, with the Queensland capital emerging as the standout choice to deliver an even bigger and bolder event.
First introduced in 2019, Magic Round sees all NRL teams converge on Brisbane for a full premiership round, with eight games played over three days. The 2024 event will expand further with the addition of the Women’s State of Origin game, making it a four-day celebration of rugby league. The event has seen immense growth, with the 2023 round selling out for the first time and a reported $41.1 million economic boost from tourism and visitor spending.
Premier Steven Miles said the success of Magic Round in Brisbane demonstrated that it could not be held anywhere else. “The way Queenslanders and tourists have embraced Magic Round in Brisbane has made it clear this event just can’t happen anywhere else,” he said.
Tourism and Sport Minister Michael Healy highlighted the event’s significant economic impact, particularly for Queensland's hospitality and tourism sectors, with almost half of all ticket holders coming from interstate or New Zealand.
Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government’s ongoing partnership with the NRL ensures the event remains a key fixture on Queensland’s major events calendar. The extension also promises further benefits for the local economy and tourism industry.
