Bike Riding Encouragement Grants Open for Applications
Community groups can now apply for grants of up to $25,000 under the second round of the Queensland Government’s Bike Riding Encouragement Program Community Grants.
Community groups can now apply for grants of up to $25,000 under the second round of the Queensland Government’s Bike Riding Encouragement Program Community Grants. The initiative, part of the Queensland Cycling Action Plan 2023–2025, aims to promote cycling for transport, recreation, and wellbeing.
Funding is available under two streams: one supporting grassroots events and activities, and another for innovative initiatives that encourage more bike riding. Eligible applicants include community groups, non-profits, and local governments partnering with community organisations.
Transport Minister Bart Mellish said the grants help more Queenslanders enjoy the benefits of cycling while reducing congestion and transport costs. Previous grant projects have included a bike-riding app for women, a school-based bike library, and local cycling route maps.
Jordana Blackman, CEO of Chicks Who Ride Bikes, credited the program with helping thousands of women get active. “The grant allowed us to develop an app connecting women through cycling,” she said.
Applications for the latest round are now open.
